Xiaomi YU7 SUV Breaks Records with 289,000 Units Sold in One Hour and Industry-Leading 528kW Charging
Xiaomi has done it again. On the evening of June 27, 2025, the Chinese tech giant officially unveiled its second electric vehicle—the Xiaomi YU7, a 5-door mid-size SUV. Just three minutes after the launch event, the company announced that pre-orders had already exceeded 200,000 units. Within a single hour, that number surged to 289,000, setting a new benchmark for EV market momentum.

Affordable and Feature-Packed
The YU7 starts at ¥253,000 (~$35,300 USD) for the Standard model, making it ¥10,000 (~$1,400) cheaper than the rear-wheel-drive version of Tesla’s Model Y in China. Despite the competitive pricing, the YU7 is packed with cutting-edge specs and technology, positioning it as a serious contender in the fast-growing mid-size SUV segment.

All YU7 models are built on Xiaomi’s Modena platform and feature 800V high-voltage architecture, enabling ultra-fast charging and advanced thermal management. Each model is powered by Xiaomi’s in-house V6SPlus electric motor, capable of spinning up to 22,000 RPM.

528kW Fast Charging: A New Benchmark

One of the standout features of the YU7 is its support for 528kW fast charging, made possible by a high-rate 5.2C battery system. According to official data:

  • 10–80% charge takes just 12 minutes

  • Up to 620 km of range can be added in only 15 minutes

These figures push the boundaries of what’s possible for mass-market EVs and position the YU7 at the forefront of next-generation EV charging.

A Direct Challenge to the Model Y

The Xiaomi YU7 enters a highly competitive market segment once dominated by Tesla’s Model Y. But times are changing. From January to May 2025, Model Y sales in China have declined by 24% year-over-year, opening the door for aggressive newcomers like Xiaomi.

The YU7 will also compete with an increasingly crowded field of Chinese EVs such as the BYD Sea Lion 07, XPeng G7, Zeekr 7X, and Onvo L60—all of which aim to combine range, tech, and value for a new generation of drivers.

Building on the Success of the SU7

Xiaomi’s first EV, the SU7 sedan, launched in March 2024 and quickly made headlines. It recorded nearly 90,000 pre-orders within the first 24 hours and has since delivered over 272,000 units (as of May 2025), despite production capacity limitations.

Company CEO Lei Jun now expects YU7 demand to triple that of the SU7, citing China’s 3:1 SUV-to-sedan sales ratio as a key growth factor. However, due to the overwhelming demand, Xiaomi has already indicated that new orders may not be fulfilled within 2025.

With record-setting pre-orders, class-leading range, and a next-level 800V powertrain, the Xiaomi YU7 is more than just another EV—it’s a signal that China’s domestic automakers are not only ready to compete globally, but are setting new standards for the industry.
