In Australia, the electric vehicle dealership AusEV has officially introduced the imported Ford F150 Lightning electric pickup, starting at a staggering $225,000. This move marks a significant milestone in the country's automotive industry, showcasing the demand for innovative electric vehicles.
Ford has already sold approximately 25,000 units of the F150 Lightning in the United States, but the vehicle had not been introduced to the Australian market until now. This gap allowed importers like AusEV to cater to early adopters' needs, albeit at a premium price point.
However, the high demand comes with a hefty price tag. During an online event, AusEV revealed that the base model starts at $224,990, while the extended-range version begins at $254,990, leaving many astonished at the cost.
Comparatively, the fossil fuel version of the F150 starts at around $106,000 in Australia. Despite the initial investment, the operational cost savings of the F150 Lightning are significant. With an average cost of over $27 per 100 kilometers for the gasoline-powered F-150, the Lightning version costs just over $2 for the same distance, potentially saving around $22,500 over five years.
AusEV highlights the lower operational costs of the electric version, estimating savings of about $22,000 over five years. With operating costs at just over $2 per 100 kilometers compared to 27 cents for the gasoline version, coupled with reduced servicing costs, an additional $10,000 can be saved during this period.
Described as a "driving revolution," the F150 Lightning boasts 433kW of power, accelerating from 0 to 100 kilometers in just 4 seconds. Its dual motors deliver 1050Nm of torque, ensuring thrilling acceleration at any moment. With a towing capacity of up to 4.5 tons and options for carrying electric tools or household appliances, it's a versatile choice for various needs.
Offering two battery options, including a standard 98 kWh battery providing a range of up to 370 kilometers and an extended-range model with a larger 131 kWh battery, extending the range to 515 kilometers. Both models come in six colors, all included in the vehicle's price.
Regarding options, three available packages can be installed for towing or utility purposes, including the Tow Technology Package ($3,000), Max Trailer Tow Package ($2,500), and Bed Cover ($980).
In addition to its spacious truck bed, the F150 Lightning features a 400-liter storage space in the power frunk, making it easier to store smaller items.These prices apply to right-hand-drive models and come with unlimited kilometer warranties. The vehicle itself is covered for 3 years, while the warranty for "battery and electric vehicle components" extends up to 5 years.
The right-hand-drive conversion process is being completed in Queensland with support from local technical and engineering teams, ensuring confidence for new buyers undergoing the conversion process.
